Derek Bottles spent nearly 30 years in real estate development and construction. He took early retirement from AvalonBay Communities, Inc. in 2024 where he was Vice President of Development and a corporate officer. He was responsible for all real estate development in the Pacific Northwest. By capitalization AvalonBay Communities is the largest publicly traded multifamily Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) in the United States. NYSE:AVB. While at AvalonBay Derek lead development for approximately $2.5 Billion of mixed use and multifamily developments, creating over 3,500 apartment homes.
Prior to AvalonBay, Derek developed, redeveloped, and built hotels, condominiums, retail, parking, public/private civic developments, and office properties. He has extensive experience with garden, podium, midrise and high-rise properties in both urban and suburban locations. He worked on projects in Washington, Oregon, Texas, and Colorado.
Derek has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Washington.
